まだ陽も高い17時よりも前から飲んだくれ始め、着信で知った知人からの誘いすら都合のよい脳内変換で翌日と思い込んで即答するも、実は当日の今日これからの会合だったと知ったところで後の祭り。
謝罪の意を込めた返信の文面すらもぐだぐだである。
そして、西新宿にて同年代の男と交わすのは、「メロコアって何？」という議題。
「最近の奴らは飛ばないねー」
何だっけ、ライヴハウスの話？
「そう、俺ん時なんて毎回々々、誰かしら逆さんなってたし」
あー、犬神家ねー。
「当時なんてさ、こんなタトゥーの物騒な奴らがふつうに後ろの方でxxでxxしてるわけよ」
治安悪っ。
「今なんて無理よ、全然。演奏なんて即中止でxxがxxして、すぐ連れてかれちゃうから」
へー。ところで、メロコアってまだあるの？
「いや、もうそんな呼び方はないね。昔は『みんな死ね』的な内容の歌詞だったけど、今はみんな『愛だの恋だの』になっちゃったから」
じゃあ、何て云うのさ。
「何だろう。あ、そうそう、真後ろにいる人たちに聞いてみなよ」
その言葉で思わず振り返ると、モヒカンが緑色の革ジャン男と、スキンヘッドにサングラス着用の男が向かい合って静かに杯を酌み交わしているという非日常な絵面がそこに。
うっかり目が合いそうになり、店員を探すような素振りの後で実際に呼び付けたりしてその場を取り繕う。
聞く相手として人選的に間違っちゃァいないが、海外での路上にて道を尋ねるよりも敷居が高いぜ。

Mrs. Agathe’s dishwasher quit working so she called a repairman. Since she had to go to work the next day, she told him, “I’ll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I’ll mail you the check. Oh, and by the way…don’t worry about my Doberman. He won’t bother you. But, whatever you do, do NOT under ANY circumstances talk to my parrot!” When the repairman arrived at Mrs. Agathe’s apartment the next day, he discovered the biggest and meanest looking Doberman he had ever seen. But just as she had said, the dog simply laid there on the carpet, watching the repairman go about his business. However, the whole time the parrot drove him nuts with his incessant cursing, yelling and name-calling. Finally the repairman couldn’t contain himself any longer and yelled, “Shut up, you stupid ugly bird!” To which the parrot replied, “Get him, Spike!”
