『九月中席～鞭声粛粛夜河ヲ過ル』
週明け初日というのも手伝って、まっつぐに帰宅。
唯一の寄り道は、ひと玉百円のキャベツを購入したのみに留まる。
江東区生まれという新宿区在住の古老に教わった、ソース焼きそばの再現である。

やはりどう頑張ってみても、料亭や天麩羅屋からの廃棄物、いわゆるリアル天かすが手に入らないので、致し方なしとして市販の揚げ玉で代用。
意地でも油は使用しないので、蒸らしも兼ねて水を最初から投入してみる。
熱せられたパン、注がれた水により揚げ玉がふやけてゆくのがよく分かる。
丸い構造体を維持できずに崩壊してゆく様を眺めていると、何処か実験のようである。
水分が蒸発しないうちに刻んだ葉を投入し、続けて麺を入れ、しばし蒸らす。
ここでうっかり塩胡椒を忘れる。
思い付きでオイスターソースを投入。（古老から叱責されるべき愚行である）
仕上げにウスターソースをと戸棚を開けると、哀しい哉、在庫切れである。
古老からの罵倒と共に繰り出される拳骨を想像しつつ、身も竦（すく）む思いで急遽、付属の粉末ソースを水で溶いて使用。
殴られるどころか、亡き者にされる覚悟の上での作業工程である。
最後に盛られる紅生姜だけが、唯一の正義といえよう。
完成品をひとことで云うならば、前回よりもチープ感増し増しである。
絵的にはジャンクな美しさなのだが、食してみると、しなしなったキャベツと一度溶け少し焦げてクリスピー感が増した揚げ玉だけがほどよい食感で、構造体が崩壊した揚げ玉にまとわり付かれた麺は幾分か水分を含み、そしてやはりダシ風味が足りない。
反省点は多々あると自覚している。
以下の点が特に致命的であるといえよう。
（１）市販揚げ玉の不正使用 -52
（２）早期における水分の投入 -12
（３）塩胡椒投入の失念 -48
（４）オイスターソースの不正使用 -39
（５）ウスターソース在庫管理能力の欠落 -59
（６）付属粉末ソースの不正使用 -72
ひどいマイナス採点である。
取り返せる気が全くしない。
古老に顔向けできない日々が続くのだ。

Mrs. Agathe’s dishwasher quit working so she called a repairman. Since she had to go to work the next day, she told him, “I’ll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I’ll mail you the check. Oh, and by the way…don’t worry about my Doberman. He won’t bother you. But, whatever you do, do NOT under ANY circumstances talk to my parrot!” When the repairman arrived at Mrs. Agathe’s apartment the next day, he discovered the biggest and meanest looking Doberman he had ever seen. But just as she had said, the dog simply laid there on the carpet, watching the repairman go about his business. However, the whole time the parrot drove him nuts with his incessant cursing, yelling and name-calling. Finally the repairman couldn’t contain himself any longer and yelled, “Shut up, you stupid ugly bird!” To which the parrot replied, “Get him, Spike!”
